Bristolian MC Twizzy follows last year’s ‘Farm Foodz’ album, which was produced entirely by Farma G, with this full length release, entitled ‘Done With All The Bull’. Produced in its entirety by Hutch, the album has an authentic flavour, with hard hitting beats and charismatic rhyming on display throughout.
‘Loud & Clear’ is a great opener, with an intense boom bap instrumental laced with crunching drums backing Twizzy’s cocky presence and skilful writing. The early part of the album’s beat selection and the vibe of many of the hooks result in quite an uptempo feel, exemplified in ‘What We Like To Call’, which features fellow Three Headed Beast MC Jinxsta JX. This track is followed by ‘Before It’s Time’, which takes a more soulful, introspective approach, and the personal nature of Twizzy’s lyrics make it a standout, as well as showing his versatility.
Glaswegian MC Physiks, who is one of the most exciting and talented rappers on the circuit kills ‘Crazy’. The in-your-face instrumental allows Twizzy and Physiks to drop intelligent lyricism with convincing flows. ‘Don’t Panic’ features Genesis Elijah and M.A.B., and each spitter delivers forceful verses packed with hip-hop sensibiilties and punchlines. For ‘That’s The Trouble’ Twizzy recruits Dotz and Chester P, and the line-up speaks for itself. The features on ‘Done With All The Bull’ are all really well picked and the chemistry and cohesiveness is clear.
‘Done With All The Bull’ is an impressive project. Twizzy’s ‘Farm Foodz’ album was solid, but the progression in his writing and delivery makes this one a more well rounded and polished piece of work. Twizzy’s consistency across the album in terms of mindset, themes and ability make it one that I’ll revisit many times.
