Trelz – Clips EP (Review)

Reviews, Trelz

Leeds City is full of promising MC’s, with Defenders of Style and The Office leading the charge at full speed. Pertrelli, or Trelz, is a 17 year old MC who is part of the extensive Office crew, which includes a heavy selection of Yorkshire’s nicest spitters. ‘Clips EP’ is a 7 track project, showcasing Pertrelli’s impressive flows and dope writing over chilled out, tasteful instrumentals.

Clips EP

Starting off with a well executed intro to set the scene, Trelz launches into ‘Eyo!’ to begin the EP properly. The mature sound of this track makes it engaging; a smooth instrumental combines with intricate rhyme schemes and precise, clear delivery. With sick wordplay and a confident presence, this opener is perfect. ‘Mi-Cach-Me’ is another slick cut from the EP, with a piano led boom bap beat and more entertaining lyricism from Pertrelli.

‘DontMakeATingOfIt.’ takes a more menacing turn, with Trelz dropping cutting bars with an aggressive delivery. On ‘ExtraSluggs’ he returns to the chilled vibe of the rest of the project, with an excellent jazzy instrumental that compliments his consistent flow. The EP finishes with ‘Purplishious…’ which is a short burst of bars, laced with tight multisyllabics and heavy punchlines.

‘Clips EP’ is a really dope collection of tracks. Pertrelli shows his intricate writing ability, appropriate and consistent ear for beats and precise flows throughout. Leeds is producing a wide range of talented rappers, and Trelz has definitely given us another banging project to bump out of the city.
